Nootropic drinks' ingredients
Ginseng helps stimulate mental and physical activities.

Consumption upgrades, longevity preservation, and mental health are becoming popular topics among Chinese consumers nowadays. More and more consumers started focusing on nootropic drinks. Data from Mintel shows that 29% of respondents hope to get more information related to emotion improvement. The food and beverages that aim to help manage pressure and improve mental health have a promising future.

Nootropic drinks are beneficial to people’s cognitive functions such as emotion, memory, creativity, and motivation. What are the most popular ingredients in nootropic drinks?

Ginseng, for one, may help stimulate physical and mental activity in people who feel weak and tired, improve thinking processes and cognition, and reduce inflammation. Ginseng beverages are becoming the drink of choice not only for the elderly but also for workers that engage in physical labor, office workers, and entrepreneurs who work around the clock.

Paired with coffee, L-Theanine is another example of an ingredient that may help increase focus and attention. L-theanine may also improve the function of the immune system and relax the mind without causing drowsiness.

Passiflora edulis, also known as passion fruit, is a beneficial fruit with a healthful nutrition profile. It contains high levels of vitamin A, which is important for skin, vision, and the immune system, and vitamin C, which is an important antioxidant. Antioxidants play a vital role in keeping the body healthy and reducing cellular stress and inflammation.

Like many spices, turmeric, known as Curcuma longa, has a long history in Chinese traditional medicine. Curcumin is a natural antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory and other benefits related to slowing the aging process and preventing Alzheimer’s disease and depression. In 2017, the global turmeric market reached USD 52 million and it will hit USD 104 million by 2025 with a compound annual growth rate of 8.9%.

As Chinese consumers have more disposable income and pay more attention to their health, we anticipate that nootropic drinks become a rapidly growing segment.
