Plant-based protein can improve muscle health in the Chinese elderly population

New study found that increasing plant-based protein intake can improve muscle health in the Chinese elderly population. According to the researchers, although overall protein intake recommendations are insufficient to offset muscle loss, plant-based protein intake may help improve muscle health.

Since most of the available data on the relationship between dietary protein intake and muscle mass comes from Western countries, researchers in China conducted a cross-sectional study to investigate how different amounts and sources of protein intake affect muscle mass in older Chinese people.
