At the beginning of 2021, McDonald’s introduced Roujiamo, the “Chinese burger”; this is a traditional street food made with shredded meat stuffed into a flat bun, originated from Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. Alongside this dish, McDonald’s also began serving spicy chili ice cream sundaes, called the “Youpo Lazi” in Chinese. These are just 2 examples of how foreign fast-food chains in China are transforming to fit better to the local taste.
